Faith and Film: "Indian Horse"

Tuesday, Feb 25, 2020     -     11:30am - 3:30pm

This movie follows the life of a Canadian First Nations boy, Saul Indian Horse, as he survives residential school and life among the racism of the 1970's. He is forcibly taken away from his loving Ojibway family at the age of seven and sent to a church run residential school, where he is not allowed to speak his native language. And all evidence of his indigenous heritage is removed. He experiences abuse at the hands of the people who are supposed to take care of the children. A talented hockey player, Saul Indian Horse must find his own path as he battles stereotypes and alcoholism. He draws on the spirit of his ancestors to begin the process of healing. This is an important story we need, as Canadians, to hear. It will help us to build understanding about why things look the way they do for Indigenous Peoples today. It provides an opportunity for us to explore how we can be part of Reconciliation in a meaningful way.

The day begins with registration and lunch at 11:30am; the presentation begins at 12:30pm.
